Humanities 11 Honors Study
This is your junior year. It is time for you to seize the opportunity for a rigorous academic challenge. In doing so, you will enhance your preparation for college and treat your mind to the rewards of reading. As you prepare for college, you must get in really good reading shape because in college you will be expected to read, on average, 100 pages per class, per week. This assignment is meant to help you begin to get your eyes, brain, and imagination in shape for what is to come. In the end, you will know more about yourself and about the world around you.
Project proposal due Monday, February 12, 2017- Submit a project proposal that explains why you want to do this project (two pages maximum). Provide a list of books/resources that will be the core of your work. Once you have submitted this proposal and I approve it, you are committed to the honors option (no turning back!).
Here are the guidelines for selecting your books and writing papers:
February : read a classic novel - response paper due March 12
March: read a book that is recommended by someone you admire - response paper due April 9
April: read a biography, autobiography, or memoir - response paper due May 14
May: read a book related to your intended major -response paper due June 11
Response Papers: For each month’s readings, you are expected to write a literary analysis essay with a thesis. I expect you to make connections in these papers. These papers should be four pages in MLA format (around 800 words).
Due Dates: Assignments are due on the selected dates by midnight, NO EXCEPTIONS.
All Response Papers are due by midnight (email Sani the link to your work). You will receive no due date reminders. Your grade will be a combined total of your completion of each stage and your submission of a polished final product. Please know you are responsible for meeting all deadlines; late or shoddy work will not be accepted. Honors grade is worth 200 points (40 points per assignment) and you will receive your grade at the end of the semester. I will only read polished work, so have your papers peer edited before submission.
